Higher
education is one of the most important spheres of Eurointegration development
which was formed in the Bologna Process. To date, 45 European countries,
including Ukraine, are its members. Also, a number of international organizations
support the process’s ideas and promote its implementation.
The Bologna Process (BP) is the process of European reforms, aimed
at creating the Common Zone of European Higher Education by 2010. BP
was officially started in 1999 by signing the Bologna declaration.
The precursor to its establishment was the signing of the Great Charter
of European Universities (Magna Charta Universitatum).
According to BP aims, educational systems of all member countries
must be changed by 2010 to facilitate:
- simplified movement of citizens for the purpose of further
studies or job placement in the Zone of European Higher Education;
- growth of European Higher Education appeal;
- Europe’s expansion and ensuring its further development as a stable,
peaceful, tolerant society.
It should be pointed out that BP does not foresee the creation of
completely identical educational systems in different countries.
It is intended for
strengthening the interconnections and improving mutual understanding
between different educational
systems.
On 19th May at the Conference of Ministers of the European
Countries (Norway, Bergen) Ukraine joined the Bologna Process,
having undertaken
a commitment to make corresponding changes into the national system
of education
and to
join the work of defining priorities in the process of creating the
Common European Zone of Higher Education by 2010.
